I didn’t know what Self Care was or what it meant until I was 30 years old. What if I had learned to care for my body using exercises to maximize performance, transform my mind by replacing limiting beliefs, and what listening to my “gut” through intuition meant early in life? How would my life be different today?

It was exactly these questions that prompted me to create Self Care Coaching for Kids. This is a wholistic empowerment program based on the 8 pillars for children to learn how to best care for their own well-being; body, mind and spirit.

Whether they are struggling with confidence, low self-esteem, fitting in with their peers, feeling a sense of uncertainty with the changes occurring in our world or needing an extra boost to manage their time more efficiently with school work, these coaching tools will assist them with improving their mindset in all these areas and more!

Self Care Kit for Home

The SELF Care Kit contains 2 weighted blankets, breathing ball, assorted beans in a mason jar, finger manipulation ball and 2 stress balls. This is placed in a specific space at home and acts as a “time-in” area.

Children learn to identify the emotions they are feeling internally and in relation to others. Once the emotions are identified, be it anger, sadness, fear, high-energy, low energy, etc., they are better understood and the SELF Care Kit tools can be utilized to help them process through those emotions.

Children go to the SELF Care space at home anytime throughout the day to use the tools they need in that moment to self-soothe; therefore, returning them to their natural, balanced state of being.

This results in less outbursts of reactionary behavior and more calm, centered responses to the emotions they are feeling.

Yoga and Meditation

In my over 31 years of teaching children, I have come to realize the definition of a child is energy. This is why children learn best through play and play involves movement. They don’t even realize they are learning when their mind is relaxed in this creative and fun way. This also allows for an even greater retention of what they have learned by being able to put into practice what they have learned.

Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.

I love my Yogini Jeanie Kid’s Yoga Program and the incredible, positive difference it makes in the lives of children! It is an intelligently sequenced, mindful, integrative and one-of-a-kind, playful movement program. A whole body, mind and soul-expressive experience.

I consider myself an “energy engineer” requested to guide them through their yoga practice introducing and expanding on concepts such as; yoga postures/movements, breathing exercises, positive affirmations, visualization, themed storytelling that teaches compassion, kindness and love, meditation to relax the body and calm the mind, and cross-lateral movements that strengthen the neurotransmitters/create new neuro-pathways in the brain for higher learning/better retention.

These tools assist children in learning how to reroute their energy for their highest and best by channeling it in a more positive and productive way. This way, children have access to managing their emotional inner state of being so instead of reacting to situations outside of themselves, they can respond from a balanced state of being.

Meditation

The I AM Yoga Nidra method of guided meditation for kids is amazing! These can be used as a break-time for the kids during the day to relax or even played at bedtime.

The literal translation of Yoga Nidra is “Yogic Sleep” and is known as a sleep-based meditation practice. Yogic sleep is very different than our traditional idea of sleep. This type of sleep is hovering right above the sleep state to where the mind drifts off and the body falls asleep. It is during this deep state that intentions are placed that can go into our subconscious mind and be actualized and fulfilled with ease and grace without any rebuttal from the mind. Yoga Nidra is known to help reduce anxiety and depression, improve overall sleep quality, and help recover from habits, PTSD, and trauma.

If I had known these tools existed earlier in my life, where would I be now? It’s this very question and my own evolution and opening to who I truly am on this spiritual journey that I have made it my mission that every child have access to learning these life-transformative tools at an early age. These are tools to last throughout their lifetime!
