SELF Care Curriculum and SELF Care Kit for Preschools

Curriculum

The Social, Emotional Learning FUNdamental, or SELF, Care is a wholistic preschool curriculum. It is implemented at the beginning of the preschool day and allows children, through a variety of exercises that include; yoga, breathing, cross-lateral movements, affirmations to tapping, and dancing to drumming to start their day with full integration through body, mind and spirit. This allows children to fully absorb the material they are learning throughout their preschool day with greater retention and recall later.

Rose water spray (magic mist) is used to help calm and soothe the children into their napping time. Roses are said to have the highest vibration of any of the other flowers as well.

It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught your children to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings.

I AM Yoga Nidra guided meditation is used during naptime and helps children to drift off to sleep easily through breathing, visualization and storytelling. Intentions are placed in the meditation when children are in a deep state of relaxation so they can be actualized a fulfilled with ease resulting, often times, in a deeper and more restful sleep.

SELF Care Kit for Preschools

The SELF Care Kit contains 2 weighted blankets, breathing ball, assorted beans in a mason jar, finger manipulation ball and 2 stress balls. This is placed in a specific space in the classroom and acts as a “time-in” area.

Children learn to identify the emotions they are feeling internally and in relation to others. Once the emotions are identified be it anger, sadness, fear, high-energy, low energy, etc., they are better understood and the station tools can be utilized to help them process through those emotions.

Children go to the SELF Care space anytime throughout the school day to use the tools they need in that moment to self-soothe; therefore, returning them to their natural, balanced state of being.

This results in less outbursts of reactionary behavior and more calm, centered responses to the emotions they are feeling.

You can t control what happens to you but you can control your response.

I created the SELF Care Curriculum with the SELF Care Kit to bring a more harmonious and balanced energy to the classroom environment. This results in a more relaxed, cohesive space for the children and teacher with less outburst requiring the teacher’s attention. When children are given the tools to help themselves feel better, they use them! This allows children to be in a powerful place of taking care of themselves and their emotional needs from an early age that lasts a lifetime!
